RRB Section Controller Eligibility Criteria

 

To be eligible for the RRB Section Controller post, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: A bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in any discipline is mandatory.
  • Age Limit: The age of the candidates should be between 20 and 33 years as of January 1, 2026.
  • Age Relaxation:
    • OBC candidates are eligible for a 3-year age relaxation.
    • SC/ST candidates are eligible for a 5-year age relaxation.

RRB Section Controller vacancy Selection Process & Exam Pattern

 

The selection process is a multi-stage, rigorous procedure designed to assess a candidate’s aptitude, knowledge, and physical fitness.

 

Stage 1: Computer-Based Test (CBT)

The written examination consists of two stages, both of which are objective-type tests with negative marking of â…“rd of a mark for each incorrect answer.

  • CBT-1 (Preliminary Exam): A screening test of 90 minutes with 100 questions.
  • CBT-2 (Main Exam): A more detailed test with a higher difficulty level, also 90 minutes long with 100 questions.

Stage 2: Psychometric Test (CBAT)

Candidates who qualify the CBTs will proceed to a Computer-Based Aptitude Test. This mandatory test evaluates a candidate’s cognitive and psychological suitability for a high-pressure, safety-critical job.

Stage 3: Document Verification & Medical Examination

Candidates must clear the psychometric test to be called for document verification and a mandatory medical examination. The required A2 medical standard is stringent and includes specific tests for vision (distant, near, and color vision), field of vision, and night vision.

 

 Salary & Job Profile

  • Salary: The post of Section Controller falls under Pay Level 6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission. The basic pay is ₹35,400. With the addition of allowances (DA, HRA, Transport Allowance, etc.), the gross monthly salary can be approximately ₹60,000.
  • Job Profile: A Section Controller is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trains within a designated section of the railway network. The role involves coordinating with station masters, signal operators, and other personnel, and it requires a high degree of concentration and responsibility. The job is shift-based and is crucial for the smooth operation of the railway system.
