To be considered for the Court Master position, applicants must meet the following criteria as of July 1, 2025:

  • Educational Qualification: A degree from a recognized university in India.
  • Shorthand & Typing Skills:
    • Shorthand: A speed of 120 words per minute (w.p.m.) in English.
    • Typing: A typing speed of 40 w.p.m. on a computer.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of continuous service in a government, PSU, or statutory body in the cadre of Private Secretary/Senior PA/PA/Senior Stenographer.

 

Supreme Court SCI Court Master Selection Process

 

The selection for this post is a multi-stage process designed to assess a candidate’s skills, knowledge, and aptitude. The stages include:

  1. Shorthand (English) Test: This test will evaluate the candidate’s stenography skills at a speed of 120 w.p.m.
  2. Objective Type Written Test: A written test comprising multiple-choice questions on subjects like General English, General Aptitude, General Knowledge, and Computer Knowledge.
  3. Typing Speed Test: A test to assess the candidate’s typing speed and accuracy.
  4. Interview: Candidates who qualify the previous stages will be called for an interview, which will be the final stage of the selection process.

The final merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in the written test and the interview. A bonus of 3 marks will be awarded to candidates who possess a Law Degree.


 

Salary and Job Profile

 

The selected candidates will be appointed to the Pay Level 11 of the Pay Matrix, with an initial basic pay of ₹67,700 along with other allowances. As a Court Master (Shorthand), the primary role is to assist the judges by taking down the verbatim record of court proceedings. This is a highly responsible and respected position that plays a crucial role in the smooth functioning of the court.
